Problem Note 32424: In SAS® 9.2, using the SHIFT key and left-mouse button to select multiple lines of text results in the lines being selected from the top of the file
In the SAS 9.2 Enhanced Editor, if you try to use the SHIFT key and left-mouse button to select (highlight) multiple lines of text, it selects from the top of the file instead of from the location you clicked. Be aware that text is inadvertantly deleted, if you then select the BACKSPACE or DELETE key.
For example, in previous SAS releases, if you click line 10, press the SHIFT key, and then click on line 20, the area from line 10 to line 20 is selected. However, in SAS 9.2, line 1 to line 20 is selected.
The workaround is to select the section using a different method. Three alternative methods are:
- Use the mouse to select text.
Place the cursor at the beginning of the selection, then hold down the left-mouse button and drag to the end of the section you want to select. Release the mouse.
- Use keyboard shortcuts to select text.
To extend a selection in a particular direction, press the SHIFT key and then press a directional arrow.
- Use the mouse and keyboard shortcut actions to select one or more lines of
text using the margin.
- Click and hold down the left-mouse button in the margin on the first line
of text that you want to select.
- Still holding down the left-mouse button, drag the mouse pointer within
the margin to the last line that you want to select.
- Release the left-mouse button.

In SAS 9.2, to select multiple lines of text in the SAS Enhanced Editor, place the cursor on the starting line, press the SHIFT key, and then press a directional arrow. If you use the SHIFT key and left-mouse button, the code is selected from the top of the file, instead of the starting line.
