Usage Note 32419: Undetected data loss might occur when writing SASĀ® files to a remote mounted network file system (NFS) directory
Internal SAS testing has uncovered cases in which files have been corrupted when they are written to a SAS data library that resides in a remotely mounted NFS file system. You can avoid such problems if you apply the IBM maintenance that is described in this usage note.
The problem affects UNIX file system (UFS) libraries (which are also known in the documentation as Hierarchical File System, or HFS, libraries) that reside in directories that correspond to a remotely mounted NFS file system. When the problem occurs, SAS files appear to be written successfully. Occasionally, however, the resulting file is corrupted due to a malfunction in IBM NFS client cache processing. The problem is not apparent until you attempt, subsequently, to read the file. In such a case, the following error messages typically appear in the SAS log:
ERROR: Expecting page n, got page m instead.
ERROR: Page validation error while reading libref.member.type.
ERROR: File libref.member.type is damaged. I/O processing did not complete.
To correct this problem, ensure you apply the fixes for the following APARS from IBM:

For software releases that are not yet generally available, the Fixed
Release is the software release in which the problem is planned to be
fixed.
