Problem Note 32099: A connection error occurs after installing SAS® Enterprise Guide® 4.1
After installing SAS Enterprise Guide 4.1, you might receive the following errors, even if you are not
using the strong encryption provided by SAS/SECURE® software:
A connection could not be made to the requested resource.
The SAS/SECURE Client for Windows must be installed to use
strong encryption algorithms.

(String Name, Boolean synchronous, Object pIOMI, String reposid, String LogicalName, String
loginReference, LoginDef pOMRLoginDef, LoginDef SASLoginDef)
at SAS.EG.SDS.Model.Server.Connect(ConnectionInfo connInfo, SDSException& sdsEx)
This can happen if there are missing files in the
C:\Program Files\SAS\Shared Files\Secure directory.
The files that are needed are tcpdeam.dll and tcpdencr.dll and, in some cases, the
tcpdcapi.dll file.
If you encounter this problem, please send the following information and answers to SAS Technical Support:
- Was the SAS® Integration Technologies Client software
installed prior to the SAS installation?
- The name of the SAS® Software Navigator XML file –
C:\Documents and Settings\<userid>\ssnprefs.xml
- Any custom plan.xml file; sample plan files do not apply.
- The SAS® products that are installed on this system.
To verify,
click Start ► Settings ► Control Panel ► Add/Remove programs;
scroll down to SAS and take a screen shot of this window.
- The Rev# value from the front of the SAS Installation Kit.
If the SAS Installation Kit cannot be located, look on front of
the SAS Setup CD for the CD Set #. If neither are accessible
and you are installing from a SAS Software Depot, go to the disk1
directory and open cd1.id in Notepad and send the CDSetVersion
number.
See SAS Note 18536,
"Error: 'The SAS/SECURE® client for Windows must be installed to use strong encryption algorithms'"
for additional information.
