Usage Note 31997: Using SAS/ACCESS® Interface to OLE DB engine and Unicode

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It

On SAS 9.1, when a SAS Unicode (SAS/UTF-8) server is connected to Unicode databases using SAS/ACCESS to OLE DB, you might get incorrect data displayed if you are dealing with Unicode national language data on English Windows with the English locale setup. This is because the OLE DB engine is not designed to allow for Unicode processing.

To display Unicode data correctly, you need to change the system locale that is the same as the language you are going to read. Also the SAS session locale has to be the same one.

For example, if your database stores Japanese data with UCS2 encoding, change the Windows Locale to Japanese by going to Control Panel ► Regional and Language Options . Your SAS session locale has to be Japanese too.
