Problem Note 31715: Memory request errors occur when using PROC IMPORT DBMS=XLS to import complex Excel spreadsheets

When importing complex Excel spreadsheets with the IMPORT procedure using DBMS=XLS, the following error might occur:

PROC IMPORT OUT= WORK.LOTSCELLS2
      DATAFILE= "C:\ExcelFiles\2006_notes_spec.xls"
      DBMS=xls REPLACE;
      SHEET="Notes";
RUN;

Memory request error
ERROR: Not enough memory available to allocate storage.
NOTE: The SAS System stopped processing this step because of errors.
NOTE: PROCEDURE IMPORT used (Total process time):
      real time           0.13 seconds
      cpu time            0.01 seconds

When using DBMS=EXCEL, the import is successful.
