Installation Note 31290: Renewing your license on a SAS® 9.2 personal installation on Windows Vista or Windows 7 with the Renew SAS Software tool

DetailsAboutRate It

When you attempt to renew your SAS 9.2 license on a personal installation of SAS in a Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating environment, the renewal utility appears to run successfully, but the license is not updated.

To verify that the utility ran successfully, in SAS run PROC SETINIT NOALIAS; RUN; and compare the expiration date in the SAS log window with the expiration date in your SAS installation data file. You can also verify that the previous renewal content is in C:\Program Files\SAS\SASFoundation\9.2\setinit.log

To workaround this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Select All Programs ► SAS ► SAS 9.2 License Renewal & Utilities.
  2. Right-click Renew SAS Software.
  3. Select Run As Administrator.
  4. In the User Access Control dialog box, click Allow.
  5. Browse to the SAS installation data (SID) file that you saved on your machine previously.

  6. Note: The default file name is SAS92_12345_site#_operatingsystem.txt, where 12345 is a unique order number for your site number, and operating system is the valid operating system for the SID file. If you do not have the SID file, see the section Obtaining a SID file, below.
  7. Click NEXT.
  8. Verify the operating system and SAS products and click OK.
  9. Click RENEW.

If the license renewal is successful, the following message is displayed:

The setinit was successfully applied.

If it is not successful, the message indicates this and displays the location of the SETINIT.LOG file. Review the SETINIT.LOG file in NOTEPAD for errors.

If applicable, restart your SAS servers and SAS spawners after you renew the SID file.

Obtaining a SAS installation data file

To obtain a SAS installation data file, contact your SAS installation representative. To determine the SAS installation representative who is responsible for your site, go to SAS Support Personnel at Your Site.

You will need your SAS site number and company name. This information is displayed at the top of the SAS log window when you first start SAS.

Alternately, contact the personnel at your company responsible for SAS Installations.
