When installing SAS 9.2 in a Windows operating environment, you might have questions about file locations, starting SAS, and other miscellaneous topics. The following information presents a general understanding of these topics and more regarding the installation of SAS 9.2 in a Windows environment.
SAS 9.2 installs to C:\Program Files\SAS\SASFoundation\9.2. This path is referred to as !sasroot.
Note: there is no space in SASFoundation.
The default location is C:\Program Files\SAS\.
SASHOME is the location where your SAS software is installed on a machine. In Windows environments, you will only be prompted for the SASHOME location once, the first time you use the SAS® Deployment Wizard.
The default directory is C:\SAS Software Depot.
Click Start ► Programs ► SAS ► SAS 9.2 (English).
You might see a language other than English depending on your local setting on your Windows machine. For instance, if you have your machine locale set to English, SAS 9.1 (English) is installed as the default language. Other languages are installed and made available via SAS 9.2 (Additional Languages).
There are two sasv9.cfg files due to the languages that SAS 9.2 now supports. The first config file is a pointer to the second config file. The contents of the first config file depend on the language that you have installed. For example if your default language is German, the first config file will contain the following:
Note: SAS will not run unless you have both sasv9.cfg (config) files. Do NOT delete either of these files. The two default locations for these config files are as follows:
C:\Program Files\SAS\SASFoundation\9.2 (the first file)
C:\Program Files\SAS\SASFoundation\9.2\nls\en (the second file)
Note: The two-character language directory—for example, en: English— will depend on the locale language set on your machine.
The default location for WinXP is C:\Documents and Settings\<userid>\My Documents\My SAS Files\9.2.
The default location for Vista and Win2008 is C:\Users\<userid>\Documents\My SAS Files\9.2.
Note: This is equivalent to the User Windows profile folder.
The default location for WinXP is C:\Documents and Settings\<userid>\Local Settings\Temp\SAS Temporary Files.
The default location for Vista and Win2008 is C:\users\<userid>\AppData\Local\Temp\SAS Temporary Files.
Note: This is equivalent to the !Temp Environment Variable.
The location for these files depends on the version of SAS that is installed first. For example:
SAS 9.2, SAS 9.1, and SAS 8.2 use the same Shared Files subdirectory after the first time that SAS is installed. SAS has taken the other versions of SAS into consideration regarding the [potential] overlap by creating subfolders with the prefix of V9 and V92 to distinguish the various versions of SAS.
Note: there is no space in SharedFiles.
No, this feature is not available in SAS 9.1 or 9.2. Now, you run the SAS installation data (SID) file from the Renew SAS Software Tool. To run the Renew SAS Software Tool, click Start ► Programs ► SAS ► SAS 9.2 License Renewal & Utilities ► Renew SAS Software. If this tool is not available from your menu, run the following:
The default location is C:\SAS Software Depot\sid_files.
The file is now part of the SAS Software Depot. When you run the SAS Deployment Wizard, it locates the SID file in this directory. You can choose to click Browse and point to a different location.
Click Help ► About SAS 9.
Legal Notices are no longer seen during the installation. You can view the Legal Notices by clicking Help ► About SAS 9 ► Legal Notices.
You can find your site number at the top of your log when you first open your SAS session or by clicking Help ► About SAS 9 ► Siteinfo.
This tab can be a useful tool when troubleshooting your system. To use this information, click Help ► About SAS 9 ► System Info. You can also use this information when you click Start ► Run and type winmsd.
Click Start ► Run and type cmd and click OK. When the Command/DOS prompt opens, type set, and press the Enter button.
For example: C:\Documents and Settings\<userid>\My Documents\My SAS Files\9.2
For example: C:\Documents and Settings\<userid>\Local Settings\Temp\SAS Temporary Files
Click setup.exe from the root of your DVD from Windows Explorer.
Note: Most installations in SAS 9.2 will be run from the SAS Software Depot which was created via Electronic Software Delivery (ESD).
When you run setup.exe and it starts the SAS Deployment Wizard, you will be prompted for the SASHOME directory. At this point you can change the drive on which you want to install SAS.
