Usage Note 31619: An "Unsupported device" warning message will be issued when using the ACTIVEX or JAVA device driver when the ODS Listing destination is open
Using the ACTIVEX or JAVA device driver when the ODS Listing destination is open causes an "unsupported device" warning message to be written to the SAS® log. The following warning message is issued with the ACTIVEX device driver:
Warning: Unsupported device "ACTIVEX" for LISTING destination. Using device "ACTXIMG".
The following warning message is issued with the JAVA device driver:
Warning: Unsupported device "JAVA" for LISTING destination. Using device "JAVAIMG".
Note that the LISTING destination is a valid ODS destination beginning with SAS® 9.2. This warning message is issued because the type of interactivity that is built into the ACTIVEX and JAVA device drivers is incompatible with the LISTING destination.
Since the warning message does not indicate an actual problem, it can be ignored. However, to suppress the warning message with the ACTIVEX and JAVA drivers, add the following statement to the beginning of your SAS code:
ods listing close;
If you then want to reset the LISTING destination after creating your graphics output, add the following statement near the end of your SAS code:
ods listing;
Another way to circumvent the issue is to use the following statement. Note that the PNG device driver is used instead of the ACTIVEX or JAVA device driver:
goptions device=png;
