Usage Note 31556: Installing and using the Configuration Troubleshooter in SAS® Management Console
The Configuration Troubleshooter is a SAS® Management Console plug-in and a diagnostic tool for verifying and understanding a SAS® Business Intelligence environment. The plug-in uses information specified in configuration files and configuration metadata defined in a SAS® Metadata Repository to verify that all aspects of the environment are defined consistently. This capability is useful both for locating the source of problems and for preventing problems from occurring.
The plug-in can also summarize information about the environment metadata that otherwise would be time-consuming to obtain. For example, you can use the Configuration Troubleshooter to list all users that have access to libraries. Obtaining this information without the plug-in would require you to examine the properties of each user and record whether the user had library access.
To install version 3.1 of the Configuration Troubleshooter, use the CD labeled SAS Configuration Troubleshooter located in your installation media kit. The label also lists 08Nov2007 and 804 Client Media as well.
If you are installing from a SAS Software Depot, then you need to launch setup.exe from one of the following locations, depending on which tier you will be installing the Configuration Troubleshooter:
\configts1cd\scountsmc Use this location to install the Configuration Troubleshooter.
\configts1cd\scoutsmcmid Use this location for installs of the Configuration Troubleshooter to your middle tier.
You also need to have the following SAS components already installed on the machine where you plan to install the Configuration Troubleshooter:
- SAS Management Console 9.1.3
- SAS® Foundation Services 9.1.3
- SAS 9.1.3 Service Pack 4
Note for middle-tier installations:
The separate middle-tier installation of the Configuration Troubleshooter is necessary when you have a server machine with a Java Web server and/or WebDAV server that is used by the SAS® Enterprise BI Server and SAS® BI Server, but the server machine does not host a SAS workspace server.
The middle-tier installation is not necessary if all of the configuration files are accessible over the network to the machine where you are running SAS Management Console. The middle-tier installation is more involved and requires that you know the port number that your Web server is listening on. Additionally, you will need to redeploy your Java Web server. The installation instructions for the middle-tier installation are located in the following directory based on the type of Web server (that is, WebSphere, Weblogic, Tomcat) you have deployed:
For example, for WebSphere on a Windows host, the directory would be C:\Program Files\SAS\SASConfigurationTroubleshooterMidTier\3.1\websphere
The directory for Unix hosts would be !SASHOME/SASConfigurationTroubleshooterMidTier/3.1.
