If the SAS Local Data Provider is not installed on the PC, you receive the following error when opening a SAS data set into the SAS Universal Viewer 1.0:

Local Provider Error
The 'SAS.LocalProvider' provider is not registered on the local machine.

In the SAS 9.2 Phase 1 installation, if you do not select the SAS^® Drivers for ODBC, it will not install the SAS^® Providers for OLE DB (which includes the SAS Local Data Provider). Without this SAS component, the SAS Universal Viewer 1.0 will not be able to open SAS data sets from the list of data sets in a given folder.

To install the SAS Providers for OLE DB, run the SAS^® Deployment Wizard from the SAS 9.2 image. Select the SAS Drivers for ODBC to install all SAS drivers and SAS data providers. If you only want to install the SAS Providers for OLE DB, then run the following command from the Start > Run command line.

[SAS 9.2 image path]\setup.exe -standalone

When the selection screen opens, select SAS Providers for OLE DB from the list of SAS components.
