Installation Note 31052: The SAS Universal Viewer does not install the SAS Local Data Provider if you install only the SAS Universal Viewer
If you install the SAS Universal Viewer 1.0 without installing SAS® software, the SAS Local Data Provider will not be installed. The SAS Local Data Provider is needed to view SAS data sets. If you select File > Open > SAS > Datasets
and try to select a folder, you will get the following error:
The 'SAS.LocalProvider' provider is not registered on the local machine.
If you install the SAS® Providers for OLE DB, mainly the SAS local data provider, you will then be able to open SAS datasets in the SAS Universal Viewer. This is fixed in SAS Universal Viewer 1.1.
