Usage Note 31015: The SAS/CONNECT® job spawner, installed as a Microsoft Windows service, starts then stops immediately due to unavailable telnet port
If you install the SAS/CONNECT PC job spawner as a Windows Service and it starts but then immediately stops, the problem could be that TELNET port 23 is unavailable.
Furthermore, if you reinstall the SAS job spawner as a service with the -z option, then the spawner.dat file shows the following error:
TCPLISTEN:bind failed for port 23, socket ###, GetLastError() returned 10013
To circumvent the problem, reinstall the SAS job spawner as a Windows service with the option -SERVICE and specify a different unused port.
For example, the command to delete the SAS job spawner as a service and then reinstall with a different port follows:
SPAWNER.EXE -d
SPAWNER.EXE -i -c tcp -service ####
(where #### is a valid port that is not in use.)
Then, to connect to the SAS job spawner from a remote machine, add the port number to the remote session code like the following:
%let mynode=server.ip.address ####;
options remote=mynode;
where server.ip.address is the actual IP address where the SAS job spawner is running or a fully qualified machine name.
