When using the EXPORT procedure with SAS/ACCESS Interface to PC Files on UNIX platforms to write to spreadsheets in locally-residing (on UNIX) Excel workbooks, certain types of data can result in a corrupted XLS file.
There is nothing in the SAS log which would indicate that a problem has occurred with the PROC EXPORT. The problem only becomes apparent when you use Excel to view the spreadsheets. When you try to view the workbook in Excel, the following message appears:
The document is corrupt and cannot be opened.
This problem does not occur when using SAS/ACCESS Interface to PC Files on UNIX platforms with DBMS=EXCELCS in conjunction with the PC Files Server component to write to Excel workbooks which reside on the PC.
