Usage Note 30521: How to change the time periods defined for a cycle
In SAS
® Financial Management, a cycle is a structured pool of data that is defined by a group of dimensions. One dimension type that is required for every cycle is Time. The set of time periods in a cycle must cover a
continuous span of time without any gaps.
When defining the Time dimension hierarchy, you should give careful thought to not only what is required today but also to what may be needed in the future. The definition of Time in the cycle can be modified, but there are a few
parameters to be aware of.
For instance, you can add time periods from a selected hierarchy to the end of the cycle, but not prior to the beginning of an established cycle. If the span of time of a cycle has been defined with a range of YR2007 to YR2015, it will not be possible to later add a new period (YR2006) which is prior to the current starting period (YR2007).
Also, once the level of granularity of time dimension members has been defined, it can not be altered. If you define a cycle to include monthly time periods for the first 10 years and then yearly time periods for the subsequent 5 years, you will not be able to add monthly time periods for those final 5 years at a later date.

Is it possible to add time members that precede the start of the current cycle?
Can I define future time periods as years and later add granularity to monthly time periods?
