Issue a PROC METAOPERATE STATUS request; for example:

If the metadata server is accepting requests, you receive output similar to the following:

If the metadata server is purposely not accepting requests, the last line of the output says that the server is PAUSED. This might be the case if administrators are backing up the metadata server. Client activity resumes when the process is completed. If you receive no response, then the SAS Metadata Server is not running.

You can also use operating system commands to monitor the SAS Metadata Server:

• On Windows, monitor the SAS process associated with the SAS Metadata Server.
• On UNIX, monitor the SAS process associated with the metadata server and the elsserv subprocess.
• On z/OS, monitor the task started by the metadata server.
