Usage Note 24289: How do I monitor the SAS Metadata Server to ensure that it is running?
Issue a PROC METAOPERATE STATUS request; for example:
proc metaoperate
server="host-name"
port=port-number
userid="user-name"
password="password"
protocol=bridge
action=status;
run;
If the metadata server is accepting requests, you receive output similar to the following:
NOTE: Server ctomr1.na.company.com SAS Version is 9.01.01B0P02122003.
NOTE: Server ctomr1.na.company.com Operating System is WIN_SRV.
NOTE: Server ctomr1.na.company.com Operating System Family is WIN.
NOTE: Server ctomr1.na.company.com Operating System Version is .
NOTE: Server ctomr1.na.company.com started by userid.
NOTE: Server ctomr1.na.company.com Metadata Model is Version 3.01.
NOTE: Server ctomr1.na.company.com is RUNNING on February 19, 2005 01:55:30.
If the metadata server is purposely not accepting requests, the last line of the output says that the server is PAUSED. This might be the case if administrators are backing up the metadata server. Client activity resumes when the process is completed. If you receive no response, then the SAS Metadata Server is not running.
You can also use operating system commands to monitor the SAS Metadata Server:
- On Windows, monitor the SAS process associated with the SAS Metadata Server.
- On UNIX, monitor the SAS process associated with the metadata server and the
elsserv subprocess.
- On z/OS, monitor the task started by the metadata server.
