Usage Note 24276: Can the SAS Metadata Model be extended by adding user-defined metadata types?
It is not yet possible for you to dynamically extend the model by adding a new metadata type. However, you can extend the model by defining additional attributes for current metadata types.
The SAS Metadata Model supports two ways to define additional attributes that are not part of an object's metadata type definition:
- You can associate an Extension or NumericExtension object with any metadata object. An attribute that is defined by using one of these metadata types can be viewed and modified by any user who is authorized to view and modify the resource for which the extension was defined.
- You can associate a Property object with a metadata object. A Property object enables you to define application-specific attributes that generally would not be modified by an end user outside the context of an application.
For more information about the Extension and NumericExtension metadata types, see the description of the Foundation Submodel in the SAS Open Metadata Interface: Reference. For more information about Property objects, see the description of the Property Submodel. The reference is available in SAS OnlineDoc.
