Usage Note 23648: How to use SAS/CONNECT® to store ODS output on your local machine
When you create non-Listing ODS output, such as Excel, HTML, PDF, or RTF, with a procedure or DATA step using remote submit with SAS/CONNECT, the local session has no formatting control over the remotely submitted output. If you specify the local host only in the ODS statement, the output is placed within <pre></pre> tags, and is not formatted by ODS. Results created on the remote session, if displayed on the local session, will look like monospace output and risk truncation.
There are two suggested strategies for creating formatted output via an ODS destination on a remote host. Both methods recommend generating the file on the remote host using ODS <destination> code inside the RSUBMIT/ENDRSUBMIT code.
One suggested method is to create results on the remote host and use PROC DOWNLOAD to place the results on the local host as illustrated in the example code below:
%let testa=remote.server.com;
options comamid=tcp remote=testa;
filename rlink 'directory\script.scr';
signon;
rsubmit;
ods html file='temp.html' path='path to a location on the remote host';
proc print data=sashelp.class;
run;
ods html close;
proc download
infile='path to a location on the remote host/temp.html'
outfile='c:\test\temp.html';
run;
endrsubmit;
A suggested method to create results on the remote host and route the results to a shared drive, accessible by the local host, is illustrated in the example code below. The local host will not display these results in the Results Viewer window.
%let testa=remote.server.com;
options comamid=tcp remote=testa;
filename rlink 'directory\script.scr';
signon;
rsubmit;
ods html file='temp.html' path='path to a location accessible to remote and local hosts';
proc print data=sashelp.class;
run;
ods html close;
endrsubmit;
