Usage Note 22566: Interpretation of the Right- and Left-tailed p-values from Fisher's exact test for 2x2 tables
If the Left probability
value is small, the null hypothesis of equal row probabilities is rejected
in favor of the alternative hypothesis that the probability of being in column
1 is less in row 1 than in row 2. Equivalently, the null hypothesis of equal
column probabilities is rejected in favor of the alternative that the probability
of being in row 1 is less in column 1 than in column 2.
If the Right probability
value is small, the null hypothesis of equal row probabilities is rejected
in favor of the alternative hypothesis that the probability of being in column
1 is greater in row 1 than in row 2. Equivalently, the null hypothesis of
equal column probabilities is rejected in favor of the alternative that the
probability of being in row 1 is greater in column 1 than in column 2.
