Usage Note 22851: Using PROC MIXED to fit models similar to FIXONE, FIXTWO, RANONE, and RANTWO models in PROC PANEL or PROC TSCSREG
In general, it is possible to specify similar models using PROC MIXED. The following syntax illustrates the relationship for the different specifications:
One-way fixed effects model
PROC PANEL; PROC MIXED;
ID STATE YEAR; CLASS STATE;
MODEL Y=X1-X10 / FIXONE; MODEL Y=X1-X10 STATE /SOLUTION;
RUN; RUN;
Two-way fixed effects model
PROC PANEL; PROC MIXED;
ID STATE YEAR; CLASS STATE YEAR;
MODEL Y=X1-X10 / FIXTWO; MODEL Y=X1-X10 STATE YEAR /SOLUTION;
RUN; RUN;
One-way random effects model
PROC PANEL ; PROC MIXED;
ID STATE YEAR; CLASS STATE;
MODEL Y=X1-X10 / RANONE; MODEL Y=X1-X10 / SOLUTION;
RUN; RANDOM STATE;
RUN;
Two-way random effects model
PROC PANEL; PROC MIXED;
ID STATE YEAR; CLASS STATE YEAR;
MODEL Y=X1-X10 / RANTWO; MODEL Y=X1-X10 / SOLUTION;
