Usage Note 22065: How to add a new variable to the data set and a custom FSEDIT screen
The variable must first be added to the data set outside of the FSEDIT procedure. You can use the LENGTH statement in a DATA step to add the variable. Then reinvoke the FSEDIT procedure specifying your custom screen. Go into screen modification mode by issuing the MODIFY command.
In the FSEDIT Menu window, select Option 2 "Screen Modification and Field Identification". In the FSEDIT Modify window, enter the underscores and any label text you want for your new variable. Issue the END command. Before this window is closed, the FSEDIT procedure displays the question
Did you create any computational or repeated fields (Y or N) ? _
Type an N in the space provided. The procedure will then take you directly to the FSEDIT Identify window. When you receive the message
Note: All fields are identified.
issue the WANTED command to be prompted to identify the location of all variables that are in the data set but not currently defined to the screen. If you want to be prompted for each variable individually, issue the WANTED command followed by the name of the variable you want to identify.
