Usage Note 21106: Error might occur when opening a view in SAS® Enterprise Guide®
The following error might occur when you open a view in SAS Enterprise
Guide:
Enterprise Guide cannot open the data file: library_name.view_name
Error opening data "view_name".
Failed to open the data set in READ mode.
Do you want to remove all references to this file from the project?
The error message will most likely occur when the view contains
duplicate column names. For example, code similar to the following will
cause the above error message:
libname test 'c:\';
data test.one;
id=1;
a1='aaa';
run;
data test.two;
id=1;
a2=123;
run;
proc sql;
create view test.view as
select * from test.one, test.two
where one.id = two.id;
quit;
To circumvent the problem, rename the column names in the data so the
resulting view contains only unique column names. Alternatively, select
only unique column names in the code that is used to create the view.
NOTE: The PROC SQL code that SAS Enterprise Guide generates for creating
a view will create one that can be opened. Therefore, this problem
should only occur for user written code.
