When SAS^® Financial Management Read-Only reports are created, column widths might be impacted by the length of a column header. It is not possible to directly change the column width, but there is a workaround to accomplish a similar result.

In the SAS Financial Management report, insert a blank row at the top of the report by placing your cursor in row 1 of the report and

• For Excel 2003: Select Insert > Row from the Microsoft Excel menu bar.


• For Excel 2007: Select Insert > Insert Sheet Rows from the 'Home' option on the Microsoft Excel menu bar.


• For Excel 2010: Select Cells > Insert > Insert Sheet Rows from the 'Home' option on the Microsoft Excel menu bar.

Hint, you might want to consistently choose to insert the new row at the top of the table/worksheet (such as row 1) to make it easier to find and manage that row in the future.

Next, enter a series of text values in row 1 for each of the columns that you want to change the column width. The column width will be adjusted to the width of the text you entered in row 1 for that column.

Once the columns are set to the desired width, hide row 1 by

• For Excel 2003: Select Format > Row > Hide from the Microsoft Excel menu bar.


• For Excel 2007: Select Format > Hide & Unhide > Hide Rows from the 'Home' option on the Microsoft Excel menu bar.


• For Excel 2010: Select Cells > Format > Hide & Unhide > Hide Rows from the 'Home' option on the Microsoft Excel menu bar.

After you make these changes, you must right click your right mouse button on the table and select

Edit > Attach Modifications

As an example:

1. Create or open a SAS Financial Management Read-only report. Note that the column width for column C is 8.
   
   
   
   
2. If you try to enter a new row or column anywhere within the defined table - that is, you try to add rows anywhere between row 1 and row 6 or add columns anywhere between column A and column N, nothing is actually inserted.
3. Position your cursor on a row outside the table, such as row 1 or row 6 and insert a new row.
   
   
   
   
4. Enter a series of characters in a cell (or cells) in the newly inserted row. In this example, a series of 20 Xs is inserted in cell C1. After entering this text string, note that the column width for column C is changed to 20.71.
   
   
   
   
5. Be sure to select Attach Modifications for this change to be retained. Note that you must be logged on to the SAS Financial Management Add-in for Microsoft Excel for this functionality to be enabled.
6. Using Excel functionality, hide the inserted row.
7. Save the file. The new column width will now "stick" with the table. As an example. close out of Excel. Re-open the report and don't log on to the SAS Financial Management Add-in for Microsoft Excel. Your width for column C is still 20.71.
   
   
   
   
8. Log back on to SAS Solutions. Notice that the modified column width is retained.
