The workspace server might fail to start and processes might stop responding if you use the %v or #v LOGPARM path directive. The LOGPARM system option controls when SAS^® log files are opened, closed, and, in conjunction with the LOG= system option, how they are named. Using directives in the value of the LOG= system option enables you to control when logs are opened or closed and how logs are named, based on real-time events such as time, month, or day of the week.

You can use the %v directive to create a log file with a unique name. In some environments, the operating system enables two processes to have write access to the same file. If this collision occurs, the workspace server fails to start and SAS processes stop responding.

A hot fix for this problem is available. After applying this update, the %v or #v directive inserts the process ID, followed by the text v1 in the log name to ensure that the process has a unique name. As an example, the following options result in a log file that is named logs est_2312v1.log, where 2312 is the process ID of the SAS process:
