Problem Note 20851: SAS® Marketing Automation returns "Error: variable has been defined as both character and numeric"

DetailsHotfixAboutRate It
SAS Marketing Automation provides the ability to add a list of seeds to
communication exports. Each list can include a number of both numeric
and alphanumeric fields to match the fields being exported along with
"seed" data to populate those fields.

If, however, you have a character field that contains only numeric
values defined in the seed list, you might see this error when the
communication being executed exports its target audience:

ERROR: variable [VARIABLE NAME] has been defined as both character and
numeric.

There are two simple workarounds for this error:

1. Ensure that the seeds list field has one or more rows containing
   character information.

2. Do not give the field a format in the export definition. Usually it
defaults to $x. Change this to blank.
