Problem Note 20745: Updating a SAS data set with an audit trail when the audit file is
missing may cause a Read Access Violation
When using the VIEWTABLE window to update a SAS data set with an active
audit trail, but the audit trail file has physically been deleted by
mistake, the following errors are produced:
ERROR: Read Access Violation In Task [ ViewTable Window ]
Exception occurred at (5FDE1E49)
Task Traceback...
ERROR: Generic critical error.
The Read Access Violation can also occur when updating with PROC FSEDIT
or PROC FSVIEW.
The audit trail file and SAS data set are tightly coupled and cannot be
opened for update without having a valid audit file so errors will be
produced, but the correct error messages should be:
ERROR: File xxxxxx.AUDIT does not exist.
ERROR: Audit file open failed for xxxxxx.AUDIT.
ERROR: Library member xxxxxx.DATA could not be repaired.
The SAS data set cannot be repaired. A backup of the data set will need
to be used or the data set must be recreated.
The incorrect Read Access Violation error is planned to be corrected to
the proper error messages in a future SAS release.
