When the CONTENTS=YES option is used in the ODS PDF FILE= statement in SAS^® 9.4, an image might be displayed in the table of contents. The image might be generated by:

• A SAS/GRAPH^® procedure
• An ODS Graphics procedure
• Any of the BACKGROUNDIMAGE, PREIMAGE, or POSTIMAGE style attributes

To circumvent the problem, remove the CONTENTS=YES option.

In SAS^® 9.3 and earlier, one the following error messages might be generated by the conditions described above:

• ERROR:  An exception has been encountered.
  

• ERROR: Out of memory.
  ERROR: Internal error on replay for "page i of n" processing.  Could
         be caused by out of memory, out of disk space, or internal coding
         error.  Check for other error messages above indicating probable user
         error or resource constraints; if there are none, or if they make no
         sense, please report this message and provide a test program to
         SAS Institute.
  

Alternatively, the PDF file might be created. However, the graphs will be missing.

To circumvent the problem in all SAS releases, remove the CONTENTS=YES option from the ODS PDF statement.
