If you are running a single-user install of SAS
® Enterprise Miner and try to restart the SAS Lev1 OB - EMiner service (object spawner), you might receive an error:
The SAS Lev1 EMiner - OB service on Local Computer started
and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if there
is no work to do, for example the Performance Logs and Alerts Service.
The problem is occurs when you change a password without also editing your OMRConfig.xml file.
To circumvent the problem, update your OMRConfig.xml file with the new password. Use this checklist to change the password for a single-user install of SAS Enterprise Miner 5.1.3 or 5.2:
1. Launch SAS
Start ► Programs ► SAS ► SAS 9.1 (English)
NOTE: Do not use SAS 9.2 to encode the password. Encoding is handled differently in SAS 9.2 and will cause errors when starting the object spawner.
In the program editor, specify your new password in quotes using PROC PWENCODE. For example, if you want your new password to be Password1:
proc pwencode in="Password1";run;
2. Observe the encrypted password value PROC PWENCODE creates in the SAS system log. In this example the value will be "{sas001}AbCdEfGh=".
Highlight and copy the encrypted password from this line. The encrypted
password value consists of all non-blank characters beginning with the
first curly brace. In this example, highlight and copy:
{sas001}AbCdEfGh=
3. Navigate to and edit this file:
C:\SAS\EMiner\Lev1\SASMain\ObjectSpawner\OMRConfig.xml
where "EMiner" is the name of the installed plan (the name may vary from
site to site).
4. In the OMRConfig.xml file, find a line that looks like the one below
(with your domain and ID instead of "SASCARY\Fred"). Update the password
by replacing the password contents and saving the file.
<Login Name="Metadata Login" UserId="'SASCARY\Fred'"
Password="{sas001}AbCdEfGh=" />
If this is a client/server installation (which uses the SAS BI accounts) the object spawner runs under the sastrust account, by default.
<Login Name="Metadata Login" UserId="&'machine name(or domain)\sastrust'"
Password="{sas001}AbCdEfGh=" />2
5. Restart the object spawner (usually a service called "SAS Lev1 OB -
EMiner"), or reboot your computer.
6. Rerun the SAS® Analytics Platform Server Advanced Configuration by
going to:
Start ► Programs ► SAS ► SAS Analytics Platform ► AP Server Advanced
Configuration
Run the wizard making sure to fill in your new password and to check
the "Remember Password" option. Hit the "Next" button through the
wizard and choose "Finish" on the last screen. Doing this step prevents
you from having an extra password prompt each time you log on to SAS
Enterprise Miner 5.2.
7. For SAS Enterprise Miner 5.1.3, Launch the SAS Enterprise Miner
configuration utility.
Start ► Programs ► SAS ► Enterprise Miner ► EM5.1 Advanced
Configuration
In the configuration window that opens, enter your new Microsoft Windows
password and click Next, then Finish. The application should exit
without any messages.
8. Use the new password to log on to SAS Enterprise Miner.
