Usage Note 20634: A SAS® server or SAS/CONNECT® spawner fails with an error
It is possible for a SAS server or SAS/CONNECT spawner to fail with the
following error message:
ERROR: Bridge protocol engine socket access method failed to
bind listen socket, error 111 (Permission is denied)
The error occurs because the port that is associatd with the SAS server or
SAS spawner task name does not match the task name that is defined in
the TCPIP.PROFILE data set.
During the installation process of various SAS products which use
TCP/IP, sites are instructed to define ports in the ETC.SERVICES file.
It is not required that the same ports be defined in the TCPIP.PROFILE
data set, taskname (JOB/STC name or TSO user ID).
To reserve a port for a particular application, the port can be
defined in the TCP/IP PROFILE data set. The use and syntax of the
PROFILE data set differs from the ETC.SERVICES data set. In the
ETC.SERVICES, the service name is defined to the port. In the PROFILE
data set, the taskname (JOB/STC name or TSO user ID) is defined to the
port. Only the tasks with that name are able to use this port. If the
taskname (JOB/STC name) differs, the above error message is issued.
