The normal.dot file is the Microsoft Word template file. If you
experience odd or unexplainable behavior in Microsoft Word, this might
be caused by the normal.dot file getting corrupted. Renaming or
removing the normal.dot file is typically the best solution. This will
create a new normal.dot file when Microsoft Word is invoked. In most
cases, this is all that is needed and the problem is corrected.

There are cases however, when removing or renaming normal.dot corrects
the problem, but the problem may occur again. In some cases this will
only be a temporary solution.

You may experience behavior with the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office
which can be attributed to normal.dot issues and creating a new
normal.dot file does not help.

The behavior has been seen with the following:

   * Unexplainable SAS menu problems
   * Missing SAS menus
   * SAS menus are grayed out
   * Word crashes and/or errors upon exiting or invoking Word

Very Important:
The hotfix MUST be accompanied by a configuration file with a particular
option for the hotfix to be effective in regards to issues with the
normal.dot file in MS-Word. If you are not experiencing an issue that is
related to MS-Word and normal.dot while using AMO, then you do not need
to take the additional below steps. Only take the below steps if you are
experiencing issues within MS-Word with the normal.dot file and AMO.

After Hot Fix 21AMO06 or higher has been installed, you will need to do the following:

1. Download the SAS.OfficeAddin.dll.config from:

   http://ftp.sas.com/techsup/download/pc/

   Right click SAS.OfficeAddin.dll.config, select 'Save Target As' to
   download the file.

   Note: In the download dialog, select 'Save as type' as 'All Files'
   otherwise it will save with a .txt extension. If you save it as a
   .txt extension, rename it and remove the .txt extension.

2. You will need to edit the SAS.OfficeAddin.dll.config file. Open it
   with NOTEPAD and delete the current contents. Then copy in the
   following and save the file:

  </assemblySettings>
</configuration>


3. Place the SAS.OfficeAddin.dll.config file in the AMO install path at:

   C:\Program Files\SAS\Add-In for Microsoft Office

4. Remove or rename the suspected bad/corrupt normal.dot file.
   Normal.dot is usually located at:

   C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\
   Microsoft\Templates
