Problem Note 20578: PROC CIMPORT generates warning: "This transport file is from an earlier
SAS release"
Prior to SAS 9.1.3 to which Hot Fix E9BB50 has been applied, PROC CPORT
does not capture the session encoding of the source library and might
produce the following warning:
"The transport file is from an earlier SAS release. If the file
contains non-English data, there may be problems importing national
characters. If problems do occur, the transport file will need to
be imported again.
If the transport file was created by a Unicode SAS session, start a
new SAS session, set the ENCODING startup option to UTF8, and
redo the import. Otherwise, set the LOCALE option to match the
LOCALE of the SAS session which created the transport file and redo
the import."
If the transport file was created in SAS 9.1 with Hot Fix E9BB50 applied
and PROC CIMPORT is running in a SAS 9.1 session without the hot fix,
you will receive this warning.
To recover in SAS 9.1, apply Hot Fix E9BB50. Use PROC CIMPORT again to
import the transport file.
If you are running SAS 9.1 with Hot Fix E9BB50 applied and the hot fix
was not applied to SAS 9.1 in the session that created the transport
file, you will receive this warning. In this case, check the converted
data. If the data contains garbage characters, follow the instructions
from the warning message and use PROC CIMPORT again to import the
transport file.
Importing the transport file from a SAS session encoding compatible with
the encoding of the data in the transport file ensures proper character
translation.
Select the Hot Fix tab in this note to access the hot fix for this issue.
