Usage Note 20297: Errors occur when starting Tomcat with the SAS® BI Dashboard Web application

The SAS BI Dashboard requires that the Xerces XML Parser jar file is installed in the WEB-INF/lib directory. In some instances Tomcat will have an older version of the Xerces XML Parser installed in the common/endorsed directory. This generates the following error messages when Tomcat is started:
java.lang.VerifyError: Class org/apache/xerces/impl/XMLNSDocumentScannerImpl$NSContentDispatcher cannot be a subclass of final class org/apache/xerces/impl/XMLDocumentScannerImpl$ContentDispatcher
In a Windows environment you might see this error:
javax.servlet.UnavailableException: Parsing error processing resource

The resolve this issue, remove the xercesImpl.jar and xmlParserAPIs.jar files from the common/endorsed directory, or rename the files so that they are not used.
