Problem Note 20231: SAS®9 does not support reading and updating of multivolume external files in the same DATA step
If you use a external multivolume file with both an INFILE and a FILE
statement that appear in the same DATA step, an error message similar to
the following will appear on the SAS log:
ERROR: OPEN is aborted for file IN01. UPDATE access is not allowed
for multivolume datasets.
The capability to read and update multivolume files is being considered
for a future software release.
