SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 2.1 can utilize either Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 or 2.0. Both versions of Microsoft .NET Framework can coexist on the same machine. Additionally, .NET Framework 3.0 should work with SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office without issue.

If you experience issues with SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office 2.1 and if .NET Framework 3.0 is present, you might receive the following error:

   Unable to load the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office. This may be due
   to the incorrect version of the .NET Framework being loaded. This can
   occur when there is a config file that instructs the Microsoft Office
   application to use a specific version of the framework.

There could also be various results with SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office if Microsoft .NET 3.0 Framework is present. These might range from a missing SAS menu or a SAS menu that is not functional.

Here is an error that occurs when Microsoft PowerPoint is invoked and Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 is present:

   PowerPoint found an error that it can't correct. You should save
   presentations, quit, and then restart PowerPoint.

A workaround is to use a config file that instructs Microsoft Excel, Word or PowerPoint to use Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 specifically.

Using the config file in this manner instructs Microsoft Office to use .NET Framework 2.0. Unless the config file is removed, Microsoft Office will always use this version of the Microsoft .NET Framework.

Steps to obtain and put the config file in place:

1. The config file can be downloaded from: http://ftp.sas.com/techsup/download/pc/
2. Download officeprod.exe.config

   (When you save the officeprod.exe.config file down from the above link, use All Files in the Save as type field rather than XML Document.)

3. Rename officeprod.exe.config to:
   • excel.exe.config to correct Microsoft Excel
   • winword.exe.config to correct Microsoft Word
   • powerpnt.exe.config to correct Microsoft PowerPoint

If you are using Microsoft Excel, place the excel.exe.config file where excel.exe resides. If you are using Microsoft Word, place the winword.exe.config file where winword.exe resides. If you are using Microsoft PowerPoint, place the powerpnt.exe.config file where powerpnt.exe resides. Then restart Microsoft Excel, Word or PowerPoint.
