To process the COUNT(Distinct xxxx) function, internal indexes are built to generate these distinct counts. Previously, you could not control the number of buffers available for internal index processing. However, the ability to increase the number of buffers is now available through the use of the IBUFNO= system option.
OPTIONS IBUFNO=n;
Optimal IBUFNO values will need to be determined on a site-specific basis. The maximum value is 10,000.
To display the IBUFNO option, you need to specify INTERNAL option in the OPTIONS procedure..
PROC OPTIONS INTERNAL; RUN;
