In SAS 6, the TRANWRD() function cannot handle text formatted in DBCS and thus handles it in binary mode.

Since SAS 8, TRANWRD() function can handle data formatted in DBCS but it only works for text data. If a string contains binary, the result is unexpected.

Under the hot fix, if data contains only printable characters, TRANWRD() function handles it in TEXT mode; if it encounters any binary data, it handles it in binary mode.
