Usage Note 19580: Using the SORT procedure in Base SASĀ® software generates a "close lock" error
If you update McAfee VirusScan software and you then run the SORT
procedure in Base SAS software, you might receive the following error
messages:
ERROR: Close lock is not available for xxxxx.xxxxxx.DATA,
lock held by another process.
ERROR: Close lock not available for WORK.tfxxxx.UTILITY,
lock held by another process.
This problem occurs with the following McAfee VirusScan Version:
VirusScan Enterprise: 8.5i
Engine: 5100.0194
DAT: >= 4920
ProtectionPilot: 1.5.0.121
Agent: 3.6.0.453
If this happens, the best solution is to uninstall the latest update
from McAfee and wait for its next update. For additional information go
to McAfee's Web site.
If you do not have the option to uninstall the software, you can add the
SASROOT directory and the SAS WORK directory to McAfee's exclusion list.
The default SASROOT directory is located in
C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS
9.1; the default WORK directory is located in
-WORK "!TEMP\SAS Temporary
Files (which usually resolves to
C:\Documents and
Settings\<your_userid>\Local Settings\Temp\SAS Temporary Files).
To list the files in McAfee's exclusion list, exit SAS and go to Enabling/Disabling Detection and Removal of Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs), which contains images that direct you through the process:
As an alternative, you can also search for "Exclusion List" in the
McAfee VirusScan Help.
