Usage Note 19278: "The remote procedure call failed", might be seen when running the SAS System Requirements during the SAS Private JRE installation

When running the SAS System Requirements Wizard, you might receive the following error:

   "The remote procedure call failed".

If this happens try the following steps in this order:

Delete the Temporary directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\<userid>\Local Settings\Temp\ {68624FB8-2512-46B5-9664-64366DCCB3EB}
Delete the temporary files that are created with Internet Explorer (IE), by performing the following:
1. Open Internet Explorer.
2. Click on Tools>Internet Options>Temporary Internet Files> Delete Files>OK
Delete the Installshield directories located in C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information.
Delete the ssn* files located in the C:\Documents and Settings\<userid> directory.
Delete the vpd.properties file located in the C:\WinNT directory if it's there.
Reboot your PC, log in as the administrator of the machine, and close all applications, including anti-virus, -spyware, and -adware programs.
Reinstall SAS 9.1.3.
If you still have problems with the SAS Private JRE, install it manually. To do this, click Start==> Run and type D:\srw\bundles\sasjre\ and double-click on jresetup.exe (in this example D: = CD-ROM drive). Select Next in the install wizard's dialog boxes and then Finish. Restart your installation.
If you still have problems, reboot your PC and boot up in safe mode. To do that you press F8 right after the system starts counting memory.
