Usage Note 18818: Troubleshooting a SAS Learning Edition 4.1 Installation
If SAS Learning Edition 4.1 does not launch properly after you have
installed it, it might be because the SAS Learning Edition 4.1
installation failed to install correctly.
The following are common causes for installation errors:
- The installer does not have administrative rights on the PC.
- Active background tasks (such as virus protectors) are interfering
with the installation.
- Problem drivers for the devices are active on the PC.
To circumvent these problems, uninstall SAS Learning Edition 4.1 and
reboot your PC.
Before attempting to re-install SAS Learning Edition 4.1, follow these
steps:
1. Log on to your PC as a user with administrator rights.
2. Turn off all background tasks (including virus protectors). These
tasks can be re-enabled after SAS Learning Edition 4.1 is installed.
3. Temporarily uninstall all attached devices such as printers,
scanners, projectors, and so on. These devices can be re-installed
after a successful SAS Learning Edition 4.1 installation. If a
problem appears after the devices are re-installed, then the drivers
for the devices might be the cause of the problem.
If problems persist with SAS Learning Edition 4.1 after re-installation,
perform the following troubleshooting procedures:
A. Invoke SAS.EXE
1. Using Windows Explorer, browse to SAS.EXE. (By default, it is
located in C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS Learning Edition 4.1\SAS.EXE.)
2. Double-click SAS.EXE.
3. If SAS does not start:
- look for any error messages
- review the SASSETUP.LOG file. (By default, it is located in
C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS Learning Edition 4.1\)
- review Event Viewer Logs
- review the .TXT file that is located in
C:\SAS\Setup Logs\ folder.
4. If SAS starts, type and submit the following command and see if
there are any error messages:
PROC SETINIT;RUN;
B. View the DCOM Settings (the following instructions are for WindowsXP)
1. CLick Start>Run and type dcomcnfg.
2. Double-click Component Services.
3. Double-click Computers.
4. Right-click My Computer and select Properties.
5. Click the Default Properties tab and do the following:
a. check the box for 'Enable Distributed COM on this computer'
b. verify that 'Default Authentication Level' is 'Connect'
c. verify that 'Default Impersonation Level' is 'Impersonate'
6. Click OK.
7. Close Component Services window.
8. Reboot PC.
C. Run the Integration Technologies test
1. Click Start>Programs>SAS 9.1 Utilities>
Integration Technologies Configuration (English).
2. Select "Test Connection". Click Next.
3. Select "Enter a SAS server definition manually". Click Next.
4. Select "SAS Workspace Server" (default) and select
"Local Connection (COM)". Click Next.
If you do not get the message: "Congratulations! You have successfully
established connection with the SAS server", you have a problem with
your SAS Learning Edition 4.1 installation. You will not be able to run
SAS Learning Edition 4.1 until the problem is fixed.
If a problem screen appears, leave the error message on the screen and
follow these steps:
5. Click the "Copy Text" button.
6. Close the Integration Technologies program.
7. Open Microsoft Wordpad (click Start>run>Wordpad.exe)
8. In Wordpad, select Edit>Paste.
9. In Wordpad, select File>Save to save error message to a file.
10. Review the Integration Technologies error messages at #018819 .
