Problem Note 18093: The SAS® install generates "The SAS installation data file selected is invalid for SAS 9.1" error message
During the SAS®9 installation, you might receive the following error message:
Warning: The SAS Installation Data file selected is invalid for SAS 9.1.
This error might occur because of one of the following:
- The SID file might be corrupted in some way. Some e-mail systems inadvertently remove the end of file character or change the formatting of the file.
- The filename is missing from the SID file location that you specified.
- The SID file path specified does not exist or is not currently available. One case where this occurs is when you restart the SAS® Software Navigator to finish the installation and the drive where the SID file resides, such as a floppy drive or network drive, is no longer available.
- The SAS installation data file (SID file) is completely expired, beyond the warning and grace period.
To resolve the problem:
- Correct the formatting of the SID file. To accomplish this:
- Open Windows Explorer or My Computer.
- Go to the folder where the SID file resides.
- Right-click on the SID file and select Open With Internet Explorer.
- In Internet Explorer, click File->Save As and save to a new text filename.
- Reference the new text filename during the installation.
- Provide the complete path and SID filename when prompted for the SID file. The standard format for the SID filename is SAS91_12345.txt, where 12345 is a unique number for each order.
- Ensure that the SID file location exists and is currently available. For example, if the SID file is on a mapped network drive or floppy drive, verify that the drive is currently available.
- Check the expiration date of the SID file. The expiration date is provided in the SAS Software Order e-mail and in the SID file.We also allow a grace and warning period beyond the expiration date and is typically 45 days or six days in an emergency SID file. To determine the exact expiration date, warning period, and grace period:
- Open the SID file in Internet Explorer.
- Scroll to the SAS product list.
- Note the expiration date for Base SAS® software.
- Search for WARN= and GRACE= and note the number for each.
- Calculate the final expiration date by adding the warning and grace days to the Base SAS software expiration date.
If the SID file is completely expired, obtain a non-expired SID file. If the problem persists, obtain a new SID file by doing one of the following:
- Contact the personnel at your site that provided the SID file and request the latest non-expired SID file for your SAS version and your operating system.
- Re-send the SID file from our Web site. First, obtain the SAS installation key from the Software Order Information page of your SAS Installation kit. Then, go to this link http://support.sas.com/adminservices-SID. Ensure that you leave the order number field blank to receive the most current SID file.
- Contact the SAS installation representative at your site and request the latest SID file for your SAS version and your operating system. To locate your SAS installation representative go to http://support.sas.com/repfinder.
