Usage Note 18849: How to set up your PC and SAS 9.1 for accessing non-English data
To set up your PC and SAS for accessing non-English data for SAS 9.1,
follow these steps:
1. Re-set regional and language settings for your PC
a. CLick Start>Settings>Control Panel>Regional and Language Options.
b. Under Regional Options tab>Standards and Formats, select
<language>.
c. Under Languages tab>Supplemental language support, select the
"Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages"
check box for Thai, Arabic, Hebrew, and so on.
d. Under Languages tab>Supplemental language support, select the
"Install files for east Asian languages" check box for Japanese,
Chinese, and so on.
d. Under Advanced tab>Language for Non-unicode programs, select
<language>.
e. Under Advanced tab>Code conversion tables, click each check box
for appropriate language settings.
f. CLick OK and reboot.
2. Change SAS system options for languages
For some languages, once you have set up your machine per step 1a-f,
you only need to install the appropriate NLS translation of SAS and
open it on your machine. This applies to Chinese (Simplified),
Chinese (Traditional), English, French, German, Hungarian, Italian,
Japanese, Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish (Castilian), and Swedish.
For other European languages and non-East Asian languages, such as
Greek or Arabic, you need to add a -LOCALE option and the language
and possibly other SAS NLS system options.
For East Asian languages that are multiple byte/double byte
character sets, you need to use SAS 9.1.3 (English with DBCS
and Unicode Support) and add the appropriate SAS NLS system options
to !SASROOT/NLS/1D/SASV9.CFG file.
3. Open SAS and set fonts
a. Select the Log window.
b. Select Tools>Options>Fonts. Change the font to Courier New and
change the Script setting to the appropriate language, or
change the font to a font that is supported by your language and
change the Script setting to your language.
Note: You cannot use the SASFont or SAS Monospace Font because
these only support western encoding.
