Usage Note 18513: The SAS® Workspace Server fails to launch if there is not enough memory left
in the Microsoft Windows Desktop Heap
The SAS® Object Spawner fails to launch a SAS Workspace Server or a SAS® Stored Process Server process when the Windows operating system runs out out of Desktop Heap space. When this problem happens, the following error appears in the SAS Object
Spawner log file:
ERROR: Unable to launch the process; CreateDesktop returned rc 8
(Not enough storage is available to process this command.).
There have been cases where this error occurred because the Desktop heap value for non-interactive logins was as large as that for interactive logins. Setting the value for non-interactive logins to 512K corrected the problem.
