Problem Note 18450: Referencing a file name that contains parenthesis in an aggregate
storage location causes problems
Specifying files in an aggregate storage location is commonly used
with the FILE, %INCLUDE, and INFILE statements. A FILENAME statement
points to an aggregate storage location such as a directory and then
in the FILE, %INCLUDE, or INFILE statement the fileref followed by the
name of the file enclosed in parenthesis is specified. For example:
FILENAME READ "C:\MYDIRECTORY";
%INCLUDE READ(MYFILE.TXT);
Referencing a file in an aggregate storage location where the name of
the file contains parenthesis can cause a syntax error or may show the
submitted code in the SAS Log, but the code is never executed. An
example of what can cause this problem is:
FILENAME READ "C:\MYDIRECTORY";
%INCLUDE READ("MY(FILE).TXT");
To circumvent the problem specify the entire pathname within quotes in
the FILENAME, FILE, %INCLUDE, or INFILE statement, such as:
%INCLUDE "C:\MYDIRECTORY\MY(FILE).TXT";
This problem will be fixed in SAS 9.2.
Note: A file located in an aggregate storage location with a name
that contains special characters must be enclosed within quotation
marks.
