Problem Note 17669: Errors occur when you attempt to connect to an Oracle server using Oracle 10.2.0.1 or earlier
If you attempt to connect to an Oracle server using Oracle 10.2.0.1 or earlier, the following error messages might be generated:
ERROR: The SAS/ACCESS Interface to ORACLE cannot be loaded.
ERROR: Image SASORA found but not loadable.
The error occurs when the SAS® is installed in a directory that has a name that contains parentheses, as shown in these examples:
- 'C:\Program Files (x86)\SAS'
- 'C:\Program Files (32-bit)\SAS'
This issue is related to an Oracle defect that occurs during the logon process to a database. This defect generates the following Oracle error message:
ORA-12154: TNS could not resolve service name.
To resolve this error, use either of the following workarounds:
- If you are running SAS® 8 or SAS®9, uninstall SAS and then re-install it to a directory that does not contain parentheses in the name. Note: SAS® 9.2 does not enable you to change the default directory for 32-bit installations.
- Upgrade to Oracle 10.2.0.1 and apply the Oracle patch for 10.2.0.1.
- Upgrade to Oracle 10.2.0.3.0.
