Assigning libraries in SAS^® Management Console for use with SAS Enterprise Miner 5.x

1. Define the library for the SAS Enterprise Miner input data set.
   • Open SAS Management Console.
   • Under the Data Library Manager plug-in, right mouse click on the SAS Libraries folder and select NEW LIBRARY.
   • Select the appropriate engine. If the SAS dataset is located on the SAS Workspace Server, you will probably select SAS BASE ENGINE LIBRARY and click next.
   • Name the library and click NEXT.
   • Provide an 8 character name for the libname and enter that in the LIBREF field.
   • Click the NEW button and enter a directory name. Note: this directory must be accessible to the SAS Workspace Server.
   • Click the ADVANCED OPTIONS button and select the "Library is pre-assigned" checkbox and click OK.
   • Click the NEXT button and then click on SASMAIN so that it is highlighted.
   • Click the NEXT button and review your entries. Something similar to this will displayed:

     Library: My Enterprise Miner data
     Libref: emdata
     Engine: BASE
     Library is pre-assigned: Yes
     Path Specification: c:\yourdata <specify correct path to data> Assigned to SAS Servers: SASMain

     If this looks correct, click FINISH.

   • Click OK.
2. Grant the READ permission in the metadata for that library.
   • Select Data Library Manager Plug-in.
   • Expand SAS Libraries.
   • Right mouse click on library name and choose Properties.
   • Select the Authorization Tab.
   • Click on the PUBLIC group.
   • Check the checkbox under the GRANT column on the READ permission row.

   Once you create the pre-assigned library in SAS Management Console, you need to import tables into the metadata. SAS Enterprise Miner sees only tables that have been imported. This need for SAS Enterprise Miner's use of metadata-defined libraries is different from other clients, such as SAS Enterprise Guide.

3. Add the METAAUTOINIT option to the SAS Workspace Server definition.

   To add the METAAUTOINIT option to a workspace server definition used by SAS Enterprise Miner, perform the following steps:

   • Open SAS Management Console.
   • Choose Server Manager Plug-in.
   • Expand the application server (typically SASMain).
   • Expand Logical Workspace server.
   • Select Workspace Server.
   • Right-mouse click on properties.
   • Choose the Options tab.
   • Find the Launch Commands section.
   • In the Object Server Parameter entry, enter the word: METAAUTOINIT.
   • Click OK.

4. Add the METAAUTORESOURCES option to the configuration file.

   The METAAUTORESOURCES= option identifies which predefined list of librefs to assign at startup. The parameter passed with the METAAUTORESOURCES option is the name of the SAS Application Server which should match the server to which the library was assigned in step 1 above.

   The easiest way to accomplish this is to add this option to the sasv9.cfg file that resides in the configuration directory. For example, on Windows, edit the sasv9.cfg file that resides at the following location: C:\SAS\EMiner\Lev1\SASMain

   There are other "meta" options within this sasv9.cfg file and the new option can be added at the end of those existing options, for example:

       -metaserver "myhost"
       -metaport 8561
       -metarepository "Foundation"
       -metaprotocol BRIDGE
       -metaautoresources "SASMain"
      

   If you want this option in effect only for SAS Enterprise Miner users, you can define this option in the MPCONNECT launch command in the SAS Enteprise Miner Workspace server properties rather than in the sasv9.cfg file. You must restart SAS Analytics Platform after making this change.

   Steps to add the option for SAS Enterprise Miner 5.2 from SAS Management Console:

   • Expand Application Management.
   • Expand Enterprise Miner.
   • Expand Projects.
   • Select a Logical Workspace Server and choose Properties.
   • Enter a valid launch command including the METAAUTORESOURCES option on the MPCONNECT Launch Command value.

   Note: You can find an appropriate launch command by viewing the launch command on the options tab of your Workspace Server Properties.

   An example of a launch command with the METAAUTORESOURCES option on Windows Systems:

           SAS -metaautoresources "SASMain" -config
           "c:\sas\eminer\lev1\sasmain\sasv9.cfg"
