Usage Note 16471: Norton Antivirus Defwatch.exe causing SAS Software Navigator and SAS
Configuration Wizard to hang
When you rerun the SAS Software Navigator or the SAS Configuration
Wizard and defwatch.exe is running in the background, your PC might
hang.
Defwatch.exe is part of Norton AntiVirus from Symantec Corporation.
It detects out-of-date virus definitions for Norton Anti-Virus software.
It is required only if you do not update the virus definitions manually
on a regular basis.
To prevent the SAS Configuration Wizard or the SAS Software Navigator
from hanging, stop the "defwatch.exe" process from running by doing the
following:
1. Right click on My Computer and choose "Manage" to start the
Computer Management console
2. Expand the "Services And Applications" node by clicking the plus
sign (+) next to it, and then choose "Services".
3. Right-click the name of the service (that is, defwatch.exe) and
then select Stop.
4. Rerun your SAS installation using SAS Software Navigator or the
SAS
Configuration Wizard.
