Usage Note 16317: When using NIS on AIX the AIX smit setting MAXAGE needs to be set to 0
When NIS is being used on AIX the smit setting for MAXAGE
( Password MAX. AGE ) needs to be set to 0. If it is
set to something greater than 0 then the sasauth authentication
module will execute password expiriation checking, which is
not supported under NIS. A setting of 0 is only necessary
for the NIS users, any local users do not have to have a 0
setting.
NIS is commonly used in Unix environments to provide
distribution user management. This is much like NT domains
or the user management services provided by Active Directory.
