Usage Note 16200: Upgrading from SAS Enterprise Miner 5.1 to SAS Enterprise Miner 5.2 in
a two-tier environment
If you are currently using SAS Enterprise Miner 5.1 in a two-tier
environment (as installed from the "Enterprise Miner, two machine"
sample plan)and wish to upgrade to SAS Enterprise Miner 5.2, follow the
instructions below.
Note: Installing SAS Enterprise Miner 5.2 requires updates to the SAS
Enterprise Miner components of Foundation SAS (the SAS Workspace
Server). The server and all client machines must be upgraded to the
same SAS Enterprise Miner version in order to work properly. A SAS
Enterprise Miner 5.1 client connecting to a SAS Enterprise Miner 5.2
workspace server (and vice versa) is not supported and may produce
unexpected results
Two-tier deployment:
On the server machine:
1) Backup the metadata repository. For backup instructions, see the
section "Using the %OMABACKUP Macro to perform backups and restores"
in the SAS® 9.1.3 Intelligence Platform System Administration Guide.

Here is the URL for the online version of this document:

2) Stop the servers on the server machine.
(For example, the Metadata Server, Object Spawner and
Enterprise Miner Shared Platform Server)
3) Insert the SAS Software Navigator CD
4) Specify the location of your SID file when prompted
5) Select Standard plan and choose the plan named:
'Enterprise Miner 5.1 upgrade to 5.2 on two machines'
6) Select 'ServerTier' for the machine when prompted.
7) Install the components specified in the plan on the
server machine.
*Note: Foundation SAS is included in the plan. There are foundation
SAS components that need to be updated for SAS Enterprise Miner 5.2 to
work correctly. The installer will detect that SAS is already installed
and present the choices to 'Add Components to SAS' or 'Install a new
instance of SAS'. Accept the default 'Add Components to SAS'. On the
'Select Components' screen, all products licensed are selected, accept
this default by clicking 'NEXT' to ensure that all components are
correctly updated.
8) Restart the Servers (ie. Metadata Server, Object Spawner)
Note: Do not restart the SAS Enterprise Minder Shared Platform
Server. That functionality it now replaced by the Analytics Platform
Server.
9) Configure the Analytics Platform Server by running the configuration
script.
On Windows you can do this by selecting:
Start -> Programs -> SAS -> Analytics Platform -> AP Server Advanced
Configuration.
More information on the Analytics Platform server, including
configuration, can be found at:
http://support.sas.com/documentation/onlinedoc/apcore
10) Start the Analytics Platform server.
Once the Analytics Platform server is started it is ready
for clients to connect.
11) If you make use of the Model Repository viewer, the new
files will need to be deployed to your web server.
12) You can now uninstall the SAS Enterprise Miner 5.1 components.
Note: Java Web Start deployment of the SAS Enterprise Miner 5.2 client
files is easier than ever. By default, the Analytics Platform Server
runs an embedded web server preconfigured to deliver the Enterprise
Miner client files. Review the Analytics Platform server documentation
for more information on that feature. However, please note that the
Tree Desktop Application that allows interactive training of Decision
Trees must be installed on the client machine. Since that application
is installed separately from the SAS Enterprise Miner Client it is not
deployed via Java Web Start.
On the Client Machines (if not deploying via Java Web Start):
1) Insert the SAS Software Navigator CD
2) Specify the location of your SID file when prompted
3) Select Standard plan and choose the plan named:
'Enterprise Miner 5.1 upgrade to 5.2 on two machines'
4) Select 'ClientTier' for the machine when prompted.
5) Install the components specified in the plan on the
client machine.
6) Once the install has finished, invoke Enterprise Miner 5.2
by going to
Start -> Programs -> SAS -> SAS Enterprise Miner 5.2
