The Metadata Server may fail to recover from an ERROR during initialization with Workunit Journaling enabled.
Beginning in SAS® 9.1.3, customers can optionally choose to queue updates to a high-speed workunit journal file before updating repositories on disk. The following link documents WorkUnit Journaling:
http://support.sas.com/onlinedoc/913/docMainpage.jsp?_topic=bisag.hlp/a003141750.htm
When an I/O occurs, and the system is restarted, the updates that were queued will be applied. Currently, on some Non-Byte-Swapped systems, the recovery process fails with messages similar to the following:
20050626:13.10.16.42: 00000002: :SYSTEM@: The I/O subsystem has returned error message 'ERROR: Variable number 0 is not on file TMP000.DBSCHEMA.'. 20050626:13.10.16.42: 00000002: :SYSTEM@: OMS Workunit Journal commit task is now terminating as a result of previously logged errors.
NOTE: When the Metadata Server is configured to use WorkUnit Journaling, the ALERTEMAIL and ALERTEMAILATTACHMENT options must be set and tested using the ALERTEMAILTEST option.
See the above link for documentation on the ALERT EMAIL options.
