In SAS® ETL Studio 3.2 and prior versions, the External File Importer (EFI) will reset the logical record length. The problem is manifested if you open the properties of the external file object and select the File Location tab. Doing this causes the EFI to re-guess the incorrect logical record length.
For non-standard flat files such as EBCDIC or variable length records where the maximum record length can not be determined in the first few records, the EFI makes a best guess. In these cases, it will usually be necessary for you to know the logical record length of the file and specify the correct value in the External File Importer Parameters window.
