Problem Note 15283: PROC SORT allocates twice as much memory as set by SORTSIZE on AIX 5.3
Changes in AIX 5.3 have resulted in PROC SORT allocating up to twice as
much memory as set on the SORTSIZE option.
The same behavior has also been observed outside of PROC SORT; for
example, when implicit sorting takes place in PROC SQL.
